Name: Buenos Aires

Country: Argentina

Intro and First Impressions

As soon as I arrived at the Airport, the only thing I really felt was: Exhaustion.

Because Buenos Aires has been the start of my trip and I had an Overlay in Textas, it took me about 24 hours to get to my destination (ride to Frankfurt and Waiting included).

The surroundings of the Airport of Buenos Aires-Ezeiza are quite unspectacular – one might call the architecture there a crime.

I’m talking:

  • Industrial Buildings
  • Destroyed buildings
  • A huge Highway
  • A lot of Nothing
But it still is the airport area and not the heart of Buenos Aires, so I didn’t worry too much. Without industry, highways etc. the economy wouldn’t work anyways, right? (I’m not saying it’s working in Buenos Aires at the moment tbh)
What confused me while getting to the hostel tho, was how the bus works. You have to make them stop with holding your hand up. I’ve seen that in some countries (like Malta), but I didn’t know about it. And who would have guessed: I didn’t catch some of the busses because of that.
Apart from that I’ve missed a couple of stops and could admire another part of Buenos Aires, far from the city center.
When I arrived at the hostel “America del Sur” (it took me about two hours to get there), which is in the district “San Telmo”, I’ve noticed how beautiful and colourful the city is.
Apart from tired, I felt happy, curious and also a little nervous, because of security warnings, especially in areas far from the center.
When it comes to my first impression on Buenos Aires I’d say it has many different faces, the people don’t seem as cheerful as you’d expect, the men more – let’s call it curious – than German men and the part I stayed in, really colourful with a lot of cute cafés, bars and restaurants.
Let’s see if my first impression will become my whole truth.
